about us
The North Inner City Local Community Safety Partnership is a new initiative which have at their core a mandate to work collaboratively with local communities, Gardaí and public services to make the North Inner City a safer, better place for families, residents and businesses.
Community safety extends beyond just policing. Policing strategies and responses to anti-social behaviour are crucial to ensuring Dublin’s North Inner City neighbourhoods are safe places to live, work, and socialise. However, challenges still present in some communities.
The Policing Security and Community Safety Bill 2024 states that community safety and the perception of safety is the responsibility of relevant state agencies and public services in collaboration with local community members.
Dublin’s North Inner City was one of three areas in the country chosen by the Department of Justice as part of a pilot project – the others were Longford LCSP and Waterford LCSP. These three projects have led the way for an eventual roll out of Community Safety Partnerships across Ireland. The locations of the three pilot programmes were chosen based on a number of factors, including population density, crime rates and deprivation. The model is built on the principle that every community needs to be central in identifying what it needs to help to shape solutions for its locality and have a direct say in those solutions with relevant State Agencies. The North Inner-City Safety Partnership replaced the Joint Policing Committee (JPC) for the area.
The pilot programme for Local Community Safety Partnership was announced by Minister for Justice Helen McEntee in November 2020. In 2024, it was announced that the Pilots for Local Commuity Safety Partnerships have been considered successful, and we’re delighted to see the model now being rolled out across the country.
